James Lyons-Weiler, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics & Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Dr. Lyons-Weiler’s research expertise and interests are primarily in the area of bioinformatics and translational biomedical informatics. His studies focus on optimization of methods for the interpretive analysis of data from high-dimensional genetic/genomic/proteomic clinical studies, especially in the area of disease prediction modeling. He directs the development of several software projects including caGEDA for microarray data analysis, Disease Prediction Model Learner (DPML) for multiplexed biomarker–based prediction model development, optimization and evaluation, and Clinical Decision Modeling System (CDMS), which implements decision modeling to sort through scores of available and proposed clinical options for disease detection, diagnosis and treatment high-performance, to identify high-performance, cost-effective combinations as an optimized clinical workflow.
