Improving outreach for lung screening and improving the ability to differentiate benign and malignant lung nodules with CT imaging

Dr. Kim Sandler is currently an Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She completed her fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Imaging at Vanderbilt in 2015 and now interprets diagnostic imaging studies for pulmonary and cardiovascular medicine. Dr. Sandler serves as the Co-Director of the Vanderbilt Lung Screening Program. Her research interests include improving outreach for lung screening, particularly for women and underrepresented minorities, and improving the ability to differentiate benign and malignant lung nodules with CT imaging. She works with researchers from a variety of disciplines including pulmonary medicine, surgery, engineering and others to improve image utilization with machine learning and big data. Dr. Sandler is currently working on projects designed to decrease the false positive rate of lung screening examinations by combining low dose CT imaging with blood-based biomarkers, machine learning, and radiomic evaluation of pulmonary nodules.
