Abstract

Aims

It aims to explore how in combination with CA19.9, these mucins improves the diagnosis of PC at a resectable stage for improved early clinical intervention. The well-collected reference set having samples from all the stages will test the efficacy of MUC5AC for early disease detection

Analytic Method

MUC4 and MUC5AC levels will be compared between groups using t-tests and ANOVA models.

Outcome

The Pancreatic Cancer Reference Set includes a large cohort of early stage pancreatic cancer patients, recruited from 5 different institutions, and relevant control groups including healthy controls, subjects with chronic pancreatitis, and subjects with acute benign biliary obstruction. For various biomarkers measured using plasma or serum samples collected in the pancreatic cancer reference set, we conducted statistical analyses evaluating each biomarker’s classification performance, as characterized by the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve and the optimal sensitivity + specificity, to separate each control group from all pancreatic cancer patients, from stage-I and IIa pancreatic cancer patients, or from stage IIb pancreatic cancer patients. Classification performances were reported for individual biomarkers, and for regression models combining biomarkers and CA-19-9, with or without adjusting for individual’s age and diabetes status. Bootstrap confidence intervals were reported for biomarkers’ performance and their incremental values over CA19-9. Analysis reports were generated separately for each lab.
